Working Well So Far, Needs App Improvements & API Though

I am starting with a single Apollo 5K this summer to see how I like it but will probably add additional batteries and maybe a second unit later. So far I am happy with it being able to do it's main two jobs, providing power and using solar. I'm not happy with the lack of ability to work it in to any type of home automation. It would be a full 5 stars if that ability was there.

At the moment I have 3x400W panels and have noticed it charging at up to 980W, so pretty good. I've been using it to run an air conditioner in my basement office since I don't have a circuit to be able to run AC along with computers and other things. It works great but will of course not run the AC all day long. It gets me through the hot part of the day. Ultimately I got the Apollo for that and emergency backup. I run it on Bat First mode so when PV is available it charges or runs the AC off PV, or battery as needed. I make sure to not run the battery dead so it doesn't have to flip to AC input. If I know it will be needed the following day I will switch to UPS mode at night so it will slowly charge while I don't have the AC running. If I don't think I will need it much I will just leave it in Bat First mode to let the solar charge it. My panel location only gives me 1.5-2 hours of direct sun. I've also used it camping and recharged it in fast AC charging mode off the 7.2KW inverter in my truck, which worked great. The app works much of the time to view charge state, but often isn't able to refresh with a "failed" message.

Everything I would like to see changed is likely software based and something I hope they could push out a firmware update for.
1. Option to turn off the screen when not needed, and at least dim the H LED on the front.
2. At least a read-only local API or status page that can be used to track the current status of the Apollo. Current settings, input and output values, battery state, etc. I would use this to log the status in my home automation, helping me to plan and predict PV usage and send me alerts as needed.
3. Authenticated API with access to change things like turn AC/DC on and off or change modes. I would use this along with home automation (Home Assistant) to make changes based on PV status, battery status, and weather forecast.
4. Ability to set a charge limit. While I understand the BMS maintains the battery, it is ultimately better not not fully charge it all the time. I would like to be able to limit it to say 80% when it is unlikely to be used for awhile. This would also be something I would tie into an API so that home automation would be able to adjust the max charge based on things like weather forecast.
5. Ability to set a max AC input while not in fast charge mode with AC output disabled. This is the only one that may not be able to be accomplished by opening up an API.

Hysolis just needs to add an API then let the community handle the rest as far as adjusting based on needs. Or document the communication protocol from the remote panel to the base since most of what I'm looking for is already there, if only we could tap into it. Automation could turn off the inverter when the charge level hits a desired %. It could change modes based on criteria, etc. with little extra effort from Hysolis. I don't need Hysolis to build the automation tools, just open up access so the community can.

Hardware wise I'm glad I went with the Hysolis over the DPU or Solix I was looking at. Integration with the rest of my house would have been better with either of the other two options though. I'm holding out hope that at some point there will be software updates to allow integration with Home Assistant or other home automation options though. Comparing 24 hour battery drain with just the AC powered on but no load over 24 hours against my sister's DPU the Apollo won.

I've contacted support twice with questions and both times talked to someone right away and was extremely happy with the support.

Excellent Product

Greatly enjoying the 5K. Would like to see more detail in the manual about setting up multi-unit single phase for whole home support and a splitter cable option for same if you’re not doing split phase 340. One app enhancement that I would like to see: the ability to send email and/or notifications when battery drops below a stipulated percentage. Also - stop using UPS as a courier… they’re terrible.

Worth waiting for

HYSOLIS seems to be on top of their game ? Unlike EcoFlow who seems to have Gremlins keep showing up ?
